The class of 1969 once again won the Fideles trophy for having the highest percentage of Fideles Society members of any reunion class. Thanks to the many FAITHFUL members of the class!
Membership in the Fideles Society represents three consecutive fiscal (not calendar) years of giving to the College.
Winter 2025
Lalla Griffis Mangin and Al recently traveled with the Georgia Tech travel group to the Canadian Rockies taking the Rocky Mountaineer Train from Vancouver to Banff.
Marsha Norman wrote that she’s happily retired from Broadway, living in Great Barrington, MA. Recently, The Juilliard School, where she taught playwriting for 25 years, gave her an honorary Doctorate, of which she’s extremely proud. Her life in the theatre has been rewarding and successful, buoyed as she was by her 3 years accompanying the dance group at ASC. Yes, she has won a Pulitzer Prize for Drama, but so have 11 of her students, which really makes her proud. She recently spoke to her roommate, Eliza Starnes, and wishes her classmates a determined survival of these difficult times.
Ellen Joyce Sherling, X1969, took her 11-year-old granddaughter Calliope Herring on a weeklong safari in Tanzania. The travelers saw all the vast Serengeti, Lake Manyara, Tarangire, and Ngorongoro Crater reserves had to offer—birds and animals galore. Likely just the first safari for Calliope, now an enthusiastic and skilled game spotter, but Ellen’s last. Such a wonderful experience to share! In other news, Ellen shared that her sister Marge Joyce Cromer, ASC '65, lost her wonderful husband Rick Cromer, a Ga Tech engineer, on July 17. They had celebrated their 59th anniversary the month before his death.
Lou Frank Guill was assigned to escort the Agnes Scott Class of 1975 celebrating their 50th reunion to lunch after convocation. So, check out her picture in the last Scott news magazine (p.5) carrying the banner for the Class of 1975. She wrote that she had a great time at the reunion, being an outsider and observer!
Winnie Wirkus Djajengwasito shared that Bali is finally recovering from the Covid shock and adjusting to the Ukraine - Palestine world. Tourists are trickling in but have much less money to spend. So, for the country the whole economic landscape has changed. While not directly affected by tariffs (because the country does not export) potential visitors who might vacation to Bali have been impacted. Since the Skype application is no longer, the Gang o' 4 (Betsy Fuller Hill, Bunny Teeple Sheffield, Marion Hinson Mitchell and Winnie) have moved to email. They stay in touch by CCing each other and still manage to have some interesting conversations.
Bunny Teeple Sheffield and John recently attended their 60th high school reunions. They delighted in reconnecting with friends from the past and marveled that they have so many decades of memories to cherish. Bunny cherishes connecting with Agnes Scott classmates in real-time or cyberspace.
Marion Hinson Mitchell and Jack traveled to Europe several times recently taking river cruises up the Rhone River through Provence and then on the Rhine River from Amsterdam to Basel. Since Skype closed, the Gang of 4 (Betsy Fuller Hill, Bunny Teeple Sheffield, Winnie Wirkus, and Marion) have returned to communication by email. She and Evelyn Angeletti drove to the NC Mountain Alumnae Reunion and enjoyed President Zak's update on the goings on at Agnes Scott.
Sally Gillespie Richardson wrote that her church Black Mountain Presbyterian marked the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene that devastated that North Carolina region. She related that much restoration work still needs to be done in many areas and funding is lacking.

SPIRIT SONG - CLASS OF 1969
(Sung to the Tune of “Bloody Mary” from South Pacific)
We are the freshmen and we’ve got the fight,
Bum, bum, bum, bum (repeated after each line).
We use the sophomores just to test our might,
When there’s a job to do we’ll do it right,
The Class of ’69!
On our faces there are smiles so bright,
You can see us dressed in yellow and white,
Our success will reach the greatest height,
In 1969!
In the Hub or on the hockey field,
We’ve got the spirit that will never yield,
Our pride in Agnes Scott can’t be concealed,
The class of ’69!

CLASS OF 1969 SISTER CLASS SONG
(to the tune of “May You Always”*)
May you, juniors, be our guidelines
through our days at ASC.
May each day we spend with you,
be a cherished memory.
May each new year bring a challenge,
May you answer with a song.
May you seek your highest goals
that have guided you so long.
May your heartaches be forgotten,
only joys remain
May all your days at Agnes Scott
be remembered through the years,
And may we freshmen always love you,
cheer you, aid you all year through.
May you find your happiness,
This is our wish for you.

Thanks to our innovative Spirit Committee (Tish, Bunny and Marion) who made sure we were noticed processing into Gaines. Yellow boas, yellow pinwheels, and yellow streamers made a statement. And who can forget seeing the three classmates dressed in Raggedy Ann costumes!
